lithic dust . embryonic utilizes the riches of the geography surrounding my studio located in a saddle of the Sonoma Mountains. these works mark the time when i began the process of removing hydrocarbon-based materials from my studio; for me that meant ending working with acrylic mediums and synthetic pigments. i started experimenting with a variety of "natural" mediums, but had only just begun to understand their qualities and characteristics. lithic dust . embryonic came about in that threshold of being comfortable in the past, but wanting to move to what is next. the works are produced by applying the acrylic with brushes i made from collected reeds and twigs. the works stand as commentary on the challenges that are faced when we attempt to move beyond the spoils of modernity and enact ways of being that are more harmonious to all humans, all beings, all life.
